It’s October which means it’s road trip season!

On these road trips, we have learned a thing or two that make road trips more enjoyable. Below you will find a list of five (5) things you can do to prepare and pack that will make your road trip more enjoyable.

Here are five (5) things to prepare for a more enjoyable road trip!

1. Have clear directions. Not only is it a good idea to have your destination address and roadmap prior to setting off on your next road trip, but it is also a good idea to get familiar with the path you are taking. Most of us know to have the destination address ready to add to our GPS but we recommend taking extra time to examine the road and consider having a map or printout of your directions just in case you have any technical issues. It is also a good idea to know where rest stops and gas stations are located.
2. Have an entertainment plan. Download an audiobook, your favorite music albums, or a few of your favorite podcasts to prepare for an enjoyable road trip. As you are exploring the open road you may find cell phone service is spotty so it’s a good idea to download entertainment. For extra brownie points, you could create a music playlist for the road trip and make memories with a special soundtrack you and your loved ones can reference in the future.
3. Have snacks and drinks. It’s important to stay hydrated and nourished on the road and gas stations don’t always have your favorite snacks so pack water and your favorite snacks.
4. Dress comfortably. Sitting in a vehicle for an extended amount of time is a lot more enjoyable when you’re dressed comfortably. Opt for comfortable fabrics, shoes, and remember your sunglasses. Keep your travel time in mind, rest stops, and what you plan to do when you arrive.
5. Stay Charged & Safe. Charge your devices before you leave on your road trip and consider packing a portable. Most people remember to pack a car charger for their electronic devices but forget a portable charger. A portable charger will help keep your device charged in case of an emergency such as a dead vehicle battery and enable you to call for help and stay entertained while help comes. A portable charger is also great to keep your devices charged while you take photos and make memories on your road trip and vacation!

Five Car Maintenance Tips to help you Care for your Car. 

1. Get your oil changed. Most vehicles need to have their oil changed every 5,000 miles. We recommend you look at your car manufacturer for your particular vehicle recommendation and keep your schedule. 
2. Check your spare tire. Check the tire pressure on your spare tire every three months. If you are taking a road trip make sure you check your tires and your spare as a part of your preparation. Stay tuned for next week’s blog where we will share some tips to help you get road trip ready for this upcoming holiday season!
3. Keep your Battery Clean. Keep the terminals of your battery clean to prevent corrosion from forming. (If corrosion frequently forms it could indicate a battery issue. Monitor your battery and consider having your battery tested at Accurate Automotive.
4. Replace your Windshield Wipers. Windshield wipers are essential for windshield visibility especially when we encounter rain or dusty weather. 
5. Get your Tires Rotated. Did you know that rotating your tires every 3,000 – 5,000 miles helps extend their life? You can save money by getting your tires rotated on your next oil change at Accurate Automotive.

Did you know that keeping your vehicle properly tuned can improve your gas mileage by 4%?

If you have a serious issue with your vehicle and have it fixed (we are happy to help you with that at Accurate Automotive) it can improve your gas mileage by 40%!

The correct tire pressure can improve your gas mileage by 3.3%. 

Having the correct motor oil in your vehicle can improve your gas mileage by 1-2%. 

Another important thing most drivers don’t think about is how important it is to have your engine serviced. With proper vehicle maintenance things like clogged air filters can be serviced and replaced to improve overall vehicle performance. 

Do you have a missing or damaged gas cap? It is important to replace it with a properly working gas cap to prevent gas from vaporizing and escaping.
