Troubleshooting When Your Car Won’t Start
Drivers who don’t understand the complexities of auto mechanics are at a serious loss when they run into trouble with their vehicle. When a car or truck will not start, troubleshooting the vehicle is the first thing a driver should do. And unless a driver is equipped with some basic knowledge about the workings of a car, it will be impossible for him or her to accurately troubleshoot the vehicle. Mesa, Arizona’s Accurate Automotive is the East Valley’s premier auto shop, and it devotes significant time and resources to helping its customers better understand the cars they drive. Our hope is to provide some insight on troubleshooting a vehicle that fails to start.
When a driver’s car will not start, and he or she decides to bring the it into Accurate Automotive for service, there are some questions that the technicians will ask to help them better determine where the problem is at. If nothing else, drivers should take note of the following things before speaking with a technician:
- Are any warning lights, such as “check engine,” displayed in the dash?
- Does the car have sufficient gas?
- Is the vehicle making any unusual noises?
- Is the starter making a clicking noise, but failing to turn the engine over?
- Is the starter cranking at a very slow rate?
The answers to these questions will point the technician in the right direction when it comes time to diagnose and service the vehicle. So if nothing else, drivers should be cognizant of these questions if their vehicle fails to start.
Sometimes the solution to a vehicle that won’t start is quite involved, but other times drivers may be able to remedy the problem personally. If, after troubleshooting the vehicle, the driver finds that the starter doesn’t start at all, it may be that the battery is dead. Many people prefer to replace their car battery personally, and can do this from their home garage. Likewise, if the starter makes a clicking noise, but fails to turn the engine over, the problem could also be a dead battery, and the driver may be handle this at home. Finally, if troubleshooting reveals that the starter cranks very slowly, a dead battery could also be the problem here.
While a dead battery is a very common problem indeed, troubleshooting oftentimes reveals problems that are more difficult to resolve. If the starter cranks as it normally does, this indicates that it is getting plenty of power from the battery, so drivers will know that the solution involves more than getting a new power source. Or if the key won’t even turn in the ignition, there could be a problem with the ignition itself. Most people find that turning their vehicle over to Accurate Automotive for these issues is their best bet.
Accurate Automotive has developed a reputation for the highest quality service and the utmost in customer attention. The technicians at Accurate Automotive are glad to assist drivers troubleshoot their vehicle, and are quick to offer solutions and service that will get the drivers back on the road as quickly as possible. Troubleshooting is always the first step when a car fails to start, and the team at Accurate Automotive can take it from there if drivers find that the problem is too involved to handle personally.

Accurate Automotive twice found problems I'd been dealing with for 2+ years that several other shops couldn't find and charged a minimal fee to do so. I highly recommend them.

Accurate Automotive is my new best friend! Diagnosed a warranty issue on my Honda HRV and saved me $2200 over the dealership repair. Lee followed up to make sure the dealership was handling the issue. Great service and integrity. Happy to have found such an honest and reliable mechanic.

Lee who owns Accurate Automotive is very knowledgeable, personable and service is definitely his #1 Priority. If it weren't for Lee I wouldn't have gotten started on the restoration of my 1973 Corvette which has been extensive. A complete Overhaul and Rebuild that has brought my Hot Rod back to Life. I will always recommend Accurate Automotive to others. They're the Best!

Everything was great! I think my favorite part was that they didn't try to sell me on anything, Aussie(Josh :D) made a recommendation for my next service(new air filter- not a $500 package or anything). They were very friendly, fast, and affordable! The free rides they offer while they service your vehicle - another must-have!!!! I will be back 100%! Highly recommend!
